The “DBC” part in this application’s name refers to the fact that it is a DBC Studios product. DBC Studios, I have to remind you, gave us NTFS Permissions Tools, a freeware product that can change file and folder permissions on NTFS-formatted drives.

The “Task Manager” part in this application’s name refers to the fact that it is, well, a task manager. But not any task manager mind you, one that closely resembles the Task Manager built into Windows 8. So if you have a PC powered by Windows 7 for example, you add some Windows 8 flavoring by using DBC Task Manager.

To get started with DBC Task Manager you must download an archive – you don’t have to complete an installation process. Inside the archive you will see an X86 folder and an X64 folder; click the first one if you have a 32-bit system and the second if you have a 64-bit system.

Inside the folder you will find two executables: DTMCFG.exe and DBCTaskMan.exe. DTMCFG.exe helps you customize the color scheme DBC Task Manager uses and lets you set DBC Task Manager as the default task manager. DBCTaskMan.exe launches the DBC Task Manager application.

Two view modes are available for DBC Task Manager’s interface: Fewer Details and More Details. While in Fewer Details mode, the interface lists open applications. Right click an item from the list to bring up a context menu that, among other things, lets you close the application (end task). While in More Details mode, the interface looks just like Windows 8’s task manager. It lists running applications, background processes, CPU usage, and so on.

DBC Task Manager is free software. Support the developer and make a donation if you like this application.

DBC Task Manager is a nice alternative for people who don’t have Windows 8. It lets them use a task manager that looks much like Windows 8’s task manager.

Pros

DBC Task Manager does not have to be installed. You can customize the color scheme DBC Task Manager uses. Two modes are available for the interface: Fewer and More Details. While in More Details mode, DBC Task Manager looks just like Windows 8’s task manager. DBC Task Manager is free software.

Cons

Obvisouly, DBC Task Manager isn’t much use if you already have Windows 8.
